Blodgett Pool
Malkin Athletic Center

Cambridge Masters holds workouts at the Blodgett Pool located at the Murr Center at Harvard University, and the Case Center Pool at Boston University. When Blodgett is not available, the club will sometimes use the Malkin Athletic Center pool at Harvard.

Blodgett Pool

Blodgett Pool is considered one of the finest swimming and diving facilities in the nation. The building is of brick-faced concrete. It has spectator seating for 1,200 and the deck can accommodate 500 participants. blodgettThe pool is fifty meters long and twenty-five yards wide, with a recessed diving well fifteen feet deep. Configured for long course, the pool has eight 50-meter lanes. Configured for short course, the pool has eight 25-yard lanes in the main competition course (7 foot depth), and six 25-yard lanes in the shallower practice course. Blodgett Web site at Harvard.edu. Built in 1977 at a cost of $4 million, Blodgett Pool is used for men's and women's swim team practice, intercollegiate swimming competition, intramural and leisure swimming, and organized instruction.

Blodgett Pool is located at 65 North Harvard Street at Harvard University. Parking is available on North Harvard Street or in the Visitors Parking spaces within the athletic complex. To access the visitor spaces, drive in GATE 6 at the closed end of the football stadium and follow the road around the stadium. Visitor Parking is located on the left.

Malkin Athletic Center

macThe MAC pool is located near Harvard Square on the corner of Holyoke and Winthrop streets. It is a 25- yard pool with six lanes.

Directions:

From Blodgett: Cross the river and N. Harvard St. becomes JFK St. If you want the parking garage, make a left at the first light heading into the square (Eliot Café is on the corner.) If you are walking or looking for meters, take your first right onto South St. (it is about 10 feet after first light). Follow to the intersection. If you are driving, go left for the metered spots. To get to the MAC, continue straight through the permit only parking lot. At the end, make a left. You will see steps on the left and many green doors. Enter the green doors at the far end (on the right if you are facing the building) and the monitor's desk is to the right. Swipe your card and locker rooms are located downstairs. You will go through the locker rooms and shower area to enter pool deck.

From the T: Harvard Square station. From the main exit go left down JFK St. Make a left onto Mt. Auburn and take your second right. Past the first intersection you will see the MAC ahead of you on the right. Walk up the steps and into the doors on your right. Follow directions above.

Boston University

The prior home of Boston University's men's and women's swim teams, the Case Center Pool was completed in 1972. It is a six-lane, 25-yard pool that also includes a diving area that has two one- and one three-meter boards.

Directions:

bu poolInbound from the Massachusetts Turnpike (Route 90) or Route 128, take the Mass Pike extension to Exit 18-marked Cambridge-Allston. After the toll, bear right at the sign marked Cambridge. Turn right at the Double Tree Hotel onto Storrow Drive. Take your first exit off Storrow Drive (It's the Boston University exit) and proceed to stop sign. Turn right onto Commonwealth Avenue. Continue on Commonwealth Avenue, past McDonald's, to the sixth traffic light. Turn right onto Babcock Street. The Case Center/Walter Brown Arena is located on your right.

Outbound from Route 93 and Southeast Expressway, get off at Exit 20, Cambridge-Allston, stay right and follow the instructions as above.

Enter the Case Center and proceed down the hall and make a right. You will see a sign that says "POOL". Go down the stairs and enter the pool. Locker rooms can be accessed through pool deck. After workout, exit through the locker room to the hallway and directly into the lobby (women on the same floor, men go up the stairs.) Please note where you are so you can enter directly through the locker room in the future. There is also a code for the women's locker room (entering from the lobby) which the coach can provide.

Parking:

The lot outside the pool is run independently. While guarded from 7 AM - 3 PM during the school year, the company tries to increase revenue during the summer time. Morning workouts should never be a problem but be careful on Saturdays as you may be able to get into the lot but they have the right to start charging at any time. There are plenty of metered spots on Babcock, Ashford, Gardner, Alcorn and Malvern streets.

By bus:

Rt. 57 from Watertown, Oak Sq. or Brighton Center: exit at Babcock St.
Rt. 60 from Brookline Village to Kenmore. Then take the Green line "B" train westbound

By subway:

Red Line: Take the Red Line train to Park Street. Transfer to the westbound Green Line "B" train and get off at Babcock Street.

Blue Line: Take the Blue Line train to Government Center. Transfer to the westbound Green Line "B" train and get off at Babcock Street.

Orange Line: Take the Orange Line train to Downtown Crossing. Follow the underground concourse to the Park Street station on the Green Line. Board the westbound "B" train and get off at Babcock Street.

Green Line: From Lechmere, Science Park, North Station, or Haymarket, take any train to Government Center. Transfer to the westbound "B" train and get off at Babcock Street. From the "C" (Cleveland Circle) or "D" (Riverside) train, take any train inbound to Kenmore Square. Transfer to the outbound platform and board the "B" train; get off at Babcock Street. From the "E" (Heath Street) train, take any train inbound to Copley station. Transfer to the outbound platform and board the "B" train; get off at Babcock Street.
